Certified Diamond

1-What is a certified diamond?

A diamond certification is like an identity card to help you understand the four principal characteristics or the 4C that make up the beauty and the value of the diamond.

A diamond certification or a diamond grading report also shows other relevant informations such as the origin of the diamond, its metric carat, its size, its purity, and its color compared to other shades of white. Other data are considered as well for it is important to know the fluorescence spectroscopy of the gem, the symmetry, the cut and the form. Any apparent flaw and imperfection are also mentioned on the certification.

If you have any issue choosing the right diamond, you will have the certification to help you compare objectively the gems in a precise and reliable way.

In order to be valid, a diamond grading report has to be issued by a team of gemologists but you have to be careful because anyone who claims to be an expert might not have the competency and certification required in the diamond industry.  You have to verify the grading report that comes with the diamond and make sure that it was issued by one of these three laboratories: HRD, IGI, or GIA.

Those laboratories are leaders in the diamond industry and their reports guarantee a full and reliable review of your diamond.  Furthermore, they also provide diamond sealing and laser etching services.

Laser etching, a guarantee of security

This is a complementary service provided by those well-known diamond laboratories in order to make sure that your purchase is safe and secure. One has to use a special lens in order to see the laser etching on the diamond. The etching consists of the certificate number and the logo of the laboratory that did the grading report. That allows you to be sure that your diamond is exactly the one mentioned in the report. Furthermore, each laboratory has a website where you can check all those informations.

2-Why is a diamond laser etching important?

Tracking is always important when it comes to diamond because any intentional or accidental substitution will be difficult due to the original laser etching present on your diamond. Furthermore, counterfeit is also easily prevented.

In case you wish to sell your diamond, the grading report will be an irrefutable proof of the quality of your stone which is essential when it comes to negotiate the price.

3-Why is it important to buy a certified diamond?

When you buy a diamond in a place where counterfeit products are common and if you do not have any experience when it comes to precious stones, the diamond grading report is the guarantee you need to be sure that everything is correct.

Also, all certified diamonds are traceable due to the laser etching on the diamond which is necessary to avoid any accidental or intentional swap of the stone. Furthermore, traceability makes it easier for an inexperienced buyer to know the difference between a real and a counterfeit product.
